About the
Chapel
The Charleston Chapel
for Weddings- intimate enough for two and large enough
for seventy-five wedding guests. The perfect location
in Historic Downtown Charleston.
Charleston Chapel
for Weddings was designed to recreate the architectural
charm of the chapels of ease, circa 1710 to 1815, some
of which still dot the charming South Carolina countryside.
Recipient of the
1995 Carolopolis Award from the Charleston, South Carolina
Preservation Society for new construction most in keeping
with the design and ambiance of Historic Charleston.
Meticulous in every
detail, the Preservation Society award-winning Charleston
Chapel represents the very best in capturing the spirit
of historic Charleston right down to the stone floor,
reminiscent of the old chapels whose floors were laid
with stones used as ballast on ships sailing from England
and Europe.
The high gabled roof and arched windows evoke the memory
of the old parish churches, and the leaded hand-blown
glass window over the main entrance door is typical
of the type of window used during the period. It was
crafted by a local artisan.
The stucco exterior
reflects the lingering island influence so prevalent
in the Charleston area and serves as a perfect backdrop
for the climbing fig vine, Azaleas, and sweet scented
gardenia which hint at the garden atmosphere to be found
inside the chapel.
As one enters the
front doorway, a flurry of greenery mingled with the
graceful lines of white garden benches greets the eye.
Imported from Indonesia and exclusively designed for
the chapel, the wrought iron and oak benches are adorned
with hand-carved garlands of ribbon. Soft lighting beams
from the ivy laded antique chandeliers.
The bridal room (shown
left) and business section are furnished with
antiques, statuary and original works of art completing
the elegant montage.
The Charleston Chapel
is a lovely and worthy addition to the "city of
romance".
Intimate enough for two and large enough for seventy-five
guests, the chapel invites lovers of all ages to wed,
renew, and rejoice in one of the most meaningful rituals
in a style unique to the chapel and to the city to which
it truly belongs.
